Cultural Weekend in Lisbon
As
Christmas approaches Lisbon is becoming more and more active in cultural activities.
After the premier of the multimedia show “The Fabulous Christmas Wish” that we
talked about last week, this weekend we suggest 2 more events that will elevate
your spirit.
The Usmanov Classical Russian Ballet offers
us a ballet that combines the classical ballet with figure skating (on
artificial ice). With music by Tchaikovsky, “Swan Lake” is a ballet in four
acts and tells the story of a prince who falls in love with a girl swan, living
an impossible but endearing love. Danced in ballet shoes and ice skates, “Swan
Lake” is the show to (re) discover.
Our second
proposal, taking place on 19th, 20th and 21st of
December at the Grande Auditório Calouste Gulbenkian, goes to the Christmas
concert by the Gulbenkian Choir and
Orchestra.
The oratory
Elijah by the Mendelssohn was the work chosen. Recorded by the choir in 1995
with the Gulbenkian Orchestra
conducted by Michel Corboz, this piece, inspired on the biblical episodes told
by the prophet Elijah, was originally composed in 1846, having premiered to
great success in the British city of Birmingham, in the same year.
Choose one
or attend both, either way it is a treat you can’t ignore.
Merry
Christmas!
