Belem Tower – 500 years

There are plenty of guide books about Lisbon and I’m sure that in all of them it is mentioned that this is a monument not to be missed, when visiting the city.

Belem has the highest concentration of touristic sights within 500 meters, the Jerónimos Monastery, the National Coach Museum, the Discoveries Monument and of course the Belem Tower.

The Belem Tower is celebrating its 500th anniversary. A construction ordered by King Manuel I, and built as a defense mechanism for the Tagus estuary is now one of the most historic and important national symbols.

In 2015, to celebrate this unique date, a series of events will take place. In January, the Monument hosts the “Talk on Belem Tower” cycle which is complemented by the “Magnificent and Beautiful Tower” exhibit, focusing on the history of the Tower and the surrounding area.

A series of exhibition panels telling the history of this monument will be placed next to the Belem Tower and the Discoveries Monument.
Be part of history.
