June is the month of Lisbon's festivities, a combination of tradition and religion that fills the streets with animation.
Concerts, parades, parties, marriages, exhibitions and theatre, all accompanied by the famous grilled sardines, in any corner of every typical quarter of Lisbon.
The highlight of these festivities are the marches of Lisbon, a popular tradition associated to the feasts of St. Anthony. Locals of the historical districts of Lisbon parade in honor of St. Anthony, singing and dancing with colorful costumes and arches.
St. Anthony is in the core of the celebration, protector of all couples. At St. Anthony's church, near the Sé Catedral, it is traditional to hold a mass wedding on the 13th of June in Lisbon.
