Daniil Trifonov – Piano concert at Gulbenkian
Apart from “The
Avenida Palace’s Music Program” there’s another musical event in Lisbon that we
recommend. A piano concert by Daniil Trifonov.
Daniil
Trifonov was born in Nizhny Novgorod on March 5th, 1991, right in
the middle of the process of dissolution of the mighty Union of Soviet
Socialist Republics. For all the social and economic commotions of the time,
their parents recognized their son’s prodigious musical talents and supported
his formal training.
He gave his
first performance with orchestra at the age of eight, but it was in the summer
of 2011 that he became an inspiration, by winning the 13th Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master
Competition in Tel-Aviv, before returning home to secure the first prize,
the Gold Medal, and Grand Prix at the XIV
International Tchaikovsky Competition. Trifonov also won the Audience Award
and the Award for the best performance of
a Mozart Concert.
In the
beginning of 2012, cultural commentator Norman Lebrecht indicated the young
man’s meteoric progress and neatly described him as “A pianist for the rest of
our lives”.
Daniil
Trifonov will be playing on February 4th at the Grande Auditório, at 9pm, with the following program:
Bach / Liszt
Fantasia and Fugue in G minor bwv 542
Ludwig van Beethoven
Piano Sonata no. 32 in
C minor op. 111
Franz Liszt
Études by Franz Liszt
