“Desfrutar o Tejo” Art and Design in Lisbon

The location known as Jardim Móvel das Oliveiras at Cais do Sodré, hosts until May 31st a street furniture exhibition that invites you to "Desfrutar o Tejo” (Enjoy the Tagus).

Wooden benches that look a lot like a cable car over the rails, "chaises longues” that look like a flying seagull, simple benches or benches shaped as logs, this is a portion of what you may find here.

The initiative, part of the international event “Art on Chairs”, with the collaboration of MUDE – Museu do Design e da Moda, aims to combine the creativity and the design of Portuguese architects to the quality and tradition of furniture companies from Paredes, that executed the pieces.

The benches set up by the river, in a recent made pedestrian area, will be used in the remodeling project of this new public area in Cais do Sodré and Largo do Corpo Santo.

The exhibition is the result of a challenge made to five teams of architects and designers to propose pieces of furniture with focus on people's relationship with the city and the river Tagus. The teams drew their inspiration from unique Lisbon elements, such as the cable cars, the Portuguese cobblestone pavement or the benches of wooden slats.
